Nelson Dental Centre has always been committed to operating with the latest technology, and we are now delighted to announce the arrival of a new CEREC Omni Cam! At the very edge of technological innovation in the way dentistry is delivered. This is our third generation of machine as we keep at the forefront of technology. We’ve been successfully treating with CEREC since 2003 and we are very excited to be part of this next advancement.
What is CEREC?
CEREC is an acronym for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. In simple terms, it allows a dentist to economically restore damaged teeth in a single appointment using a high quality ceramic material, matching the natural colour of your teeth.
In a CEREC machine, you will find advanced CAD/CAM (Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacturing) technology, contained in a system that encompasses a camera, computer and milling machine in one instrument.
At Nelson Dental Centre, our dentists use an intraoral camera to take a three dimensional picture of the prepared tooth, and this optical impression is transferred and displayed on a colour monitor. The dentist will then apply CAD technology to design the restoration. The CAM then takes over and automatically creates the restoration, which is then bonded to the surface of the old tooth. The whole process takes place in one visit, as little as 90 minutes!
The Benefits of CEREC
Incredible accuracy of fit
Preservation of more healthy tooth material
Natural tooth coloured restoration for crowns, implants, bridges and veneers
Biocompatible, anti abrasive and plaque resistant ceramic materials
Extreme precision through digital mapping technology for lasting natural results
Single visit convenience with less drilling and less anaesthetic!
Dramatic reduction in single use disposable materials
In our busy lives, swift and efficient treatment options are a necessity, and the CEREC system certainly provides this. This technology allows the dentist to perform crowns in a single visit, without the need for temporary crowns, and eliminating the taking of impressions.
CEREC uses strong, tooth-colored ceramic materials to restore your teeth to their natural strength, beauty and function. These materials closely match the composition of natural tooth structure. This means that when you eat hot food and then drink something cold, the restoration and tooth expand and contract at nearly equal rates. The materials are chemically bonded to your tooth so Nelson Dental Centre can save as much healthy tooth tissue as possible while providing you with a dental restoration that, in turn, actually strengthens your tooth.
The CEREC approach is supported by two decades of clinical research, and the restorations have proven to be precise, safe, and effective, with a lifespan that exceeds that of individually laboratory manufactured ceramic inlays.
We are excited about having a brand new machine to use, and proud to support our patients’ health through the most recent technology available, backed by our proven supplier.
